COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE PROGRAM OF STUDY

COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE SAMPLE COURSE OF STUDY

This degree program prepares students for careers in software engineering, data science, database design & development, and much more. Students practice their computational and quantitative skills in projects relative to their concentration or interests and have interdisciplinary opportunities to study and research with other University departments. Students will:

  • Be immersed into a particular field of applied computing
  • Have opportunities to do significant research led by award-winning faculty
  • Develop scientific programs in a high-level language such as Java, C/C++, or Python
  • Interact with the local community in projects advancing computer and computing technologies

Students learn to develop and apply computational models to real-world problems, in areas such as computational biology, scientific visualization, and beyond. Graduates of this program will be able to use computing theories and software techniques in professional roles in science, engineering, social science, and business.

“I am a local and decided to look for a school near home to pursue my Bachelor’s in Computational Science. The Computational Science department created a phenomenal program at USCB and I am very grateful to be a part of this family! The professors really take the time to mentor students and prepare them for a successful career. Last semester prepared me to take the latest Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification, which gave me the edge needed on my resume to obtain my current Co-op position at Gulfstream Aerospace. Currently, I am working in the Quality Assurance department which utilizes the Agile methodology that was discussed and implemented in my Information Technology Project Management course. At Gulfstream, I have created numerous test cases for multiple applications and helped identify bugs to improve the user’s experience with each application’s interface. Thanks to the professors in this department and my mentors at Gulfstream, I am well prepared to thrive in this industry.”
