Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: When does the program start?

A: Every fall in late August, but students with appropriate course transfers can start earlier

Q: How long are the courses and classes?

A: There are 16 week and 8 week courses from which to choose.  Sixteen week courses have fewer hours per class and eight week courses are longer per class.  For example, a Saturday class that meets only eight times is 3.5 hours (with breaks) with an hour of internet activity during the week, versus a 16 week course that meets thirty-two times for an hour.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Active duty military personnel and veterans receive meaningful tuition reductions and/or assistance that can almost eliminate the cost of education.    It is important to speak with a knowledgeable official who can provide the latest information on the different programs available to active personnel and veterans.    All of these programs have financial caps and time limits that are reasonable but which can affect your planning.   See the Financial Aid office for assistance for the numerous options available.  Savannah-area residents (Chatham, Effingham and Bryan counties) also pay the lower, in-state tuition.

Q: Can I really afford to do this?

A: Everyone’s personal situation is different, but the higher education benefits available to military personnel and veterans are extremely valuable to individuals who want to complete their education.  You should find out what is available so that you can make an informed decision.   For example, receiving 100% from the Post 911 GI Bill covers the entire tuition, provides a housing allowance, and covers text books and fees.  Importantly, this benefit can be transferred to a spouse or dependent.  Getting education completed at this time could be a very smart financial decision.  See the Financial Aid office for information in helping you make your decisions.

Q: How quickly can I complete my degree?

A: Most students complete the program between two to three years based on how many transferable credits they have and how intense they want their program of study.  The Business degree in management requires 60 business credits which can be completed in 22 months.  An additional 60 Gen Ed and program credits are also needed which are covered through a combination of qualifying transfer credits from your prior institutions and additional courses at USCB.  These remaining non-business courses can be taken during or after your Business courses.  Prior to your attendance we develop a plan that outlines your course needs based on your qualifying transfer credits and how much time it may take to complete your requirements.

Q: What are the enrollment criteria?

A: Students accepted into the Military Business Degree program are ‘transfer students’ and must have some partial college progress at another college or community college.  As noted above, the more qualifying transfer credits you have, the sooner you can complete the program, but there is not a minimum number of transfer credit hours required  in order for you to meet the definition of a transfer student.   However, you need to be in ‘good standing’ with prior institutions (i.e. no financial encumbrances, etc.) and a 2.0 GPA is required from prior institutions for admission to USCB.  No entrance exam is required but we do prefer students who have completed college algebra which can be taken prior to enrollment.

Q: What if I have no college credits?

A: The Program requires 60 hours of General Education and Program-specific courses to be completed  before, during or after the Business courses.  There are numerous community colleges in the Low Country where you can take necessary Gen Ed foundation courses (i.e. Math, English, etc.) and then transfer to USCB after one or two semesters.  Remaining Gen Ed coursework may be taken on campus.  Some courses may be available online as well.  These courses can also be supported through educational assistance from the military.  Many active duty personnel take some foundation courses at a community college while on active duty and then transfer to USCB under the GI bill.  Speak with a USCB advisor and your Financial Aid advisor for scheduling assistance to assure that you take appropriate transferable courses that will reduce your course requirements at USCB.

Q: How long does it take to enroll?

A: Getting a previous college to send your transcript can take two weeks to two months, depending on the college, so request your transcripts as soon as possible. When we have your online application and your transcripts, we can decide on admission within two weeks.
