Teacher Education Degree Programs

Welcome to the Department of Education at the University of South Carolina Beaufort

Department of Education Calendar 2013-2014

Our goal is to achieve a legacy of educational excellence in South Carolina. Students pursing Bachelor of Arts degrees in the Department of Education have two options for working with students in grades Pre-K-6: Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Both majors incorporate a research-based curriculum with practical, real-world classroom experiences in area early childhood facilities and elementary schools. The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education is a newly implemented program in Fall 2013.

The Department of Education is committed to offering high quality teacher education programs that prepare Constructivist Educators to be nurturers, communicators, reflective practioners and quality instructors.  Teacher education candidates are encouraged to pursue their academic and professional potential through exposure to highly qualified faculty, professional learning environments, and supportive multicultural settings. The faculty and staff seek to accomplish these goals through a strong commitment to teaching, advising, scholarship, and service.

The Department of Education at the University of South Carolina Beaufort is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), www.ncate.org. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs in the Department of Education at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
