Learning Communities

MAKE FRIENDS AND GET OFF TO A GREAT START!

Beginning in fall 2011, USC Beaufort will be offering a limited number of seats in FRESHMAN LEARNING COMMUNITIES. In these communities students will take three of their fall classes together as a group. In each community, the same group of twenty students will together take freshman composition, public communication, and a third freshman class which meets one of USC Beaufort's general education requirements. National studies have shown that such communities improve freshman performance and retention by fostering a sense of shared mission and belonging. The professors for the three core freshman courses will work together to create synergies between their courses, and the students will find it easy to form bonds of friendship and study groups within their learning community.

The number of spaces in these communities is limited. If you would like to participate in one, please complete the online interest form or contact the Office of Admissions at (843) 208-8118 by May 2, 2011.Students who elect to participate in one of these learning communities will need to register for one of USC Beaufort's summer freshman orientations sessions in May, June or July. At these orientation sessions students will be able to select the remaining courses to round out their schedules.
