Convocation/FYRE Kickoff

Joan Robinson-Berry, Vice President and General Manager of Boeing South Carolina, will deliver the convocation address and talk to first-year students about the importance of STEM.

Hidden Figures Film Screening

Thursday, September 7th 2017 in Hargray 156 at 7:00pm

Join us as we screen the Oscar-nominated movie adaptation of Hidden Figures featuring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe. This is a great opportunity to compare your experience reading the book with watching the movie. Refreshments include a popcorn bar and drinks.

STEM Connections

Ever wonder what a career in STEM entails? This networking event will help you start thinking about a career in STEM and allow you to meet STEM professionals. A Ronald E. McNair Program Representative will be present to kickoff the event. Light refreshments will be served.

FYREside Chats

Wednesday, November 1st 2017, Check in at Campus Center at 6:30pm

FYREside Chats allow students the opportunity to explore specific themes discussed in the book, led by expert panelists. More details coming soon. Afterwards, join us at the fire pit for s'mores!

COMM FYRE Off: Persuasive Speech Forum

Thursday, November 30th 2017 in Hargray 156 at 6:30pm

Co-hosted by the Communication Studies department and FYRE, this forum will feature COMM B140 students presenting their persuasive speeches about themes related to Hidden Figures.

USCB FYRE Essay Contest

Submission Deadline Friday, January 20th 2017

Using a prompt, students will write essays reflecting on the book and what they have learned. Some courses will be using this prompt as an assignment and encourage students who write the best essays to submit their work. The contest winner will be featured at Student Research and Scholarship Day.
