Jalen Manor, DNP, APRN, FNP-C
Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing
I serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Nursing. With a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP), I am a highly qualified Nurse Practitioner. Additionally, I am proud to be an alumnus of USCB, graduating in 2016, and I take pride in being the first African American male to complete the nursing program at the university. Furthering this achievement, I hold the distinction of being the first African American male nursing professor at USCB.
Commencing my nursing journey as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Beaufort Memorial, I gained invaluable experience and knowledge. However, I quickly recognized that ICU nursing was not my preferred specialty. Subsequently, I transferred to the Cardiac Intermediate Care/Medical Surgical unit at Memorial Health University Medical Center, where I discovered a greater sense of fulfillment within the nursing profession. Additionally, during my time at the hospital, I concurrently worked at a nearby skilled nursing facility, where my familial connection and affinity for the elderly facilitated compassionate care.
In 2019, I completed my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner at the University of South Carolina (USC). Transitioning into the urgent care field as a nurse practitioner, I realized that my passion for nursing was yet to be fulfilled, prompting me to pursue further education. Consequently, I obtained my Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Georgia Southern University (GSU) in May 2022. As a nurse scholar, I am honored to be associated with the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. In addition, I am a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, INC.
As an esteemed member of the USCB alumni community, I derive immense pride from my educational background. In my capacity as a professor, my objective is to guide and inspire my students to embark on a gratifying nursing career. I aim to impart knowledge that sets them apart from other novice nurses, recognizing the increasingly complex and acutely ill patients we encounter. Equipped with a solid foundation in nursing fundamentals, critical thinking skills, and a strong emphasis on delivering the highest quality care, our USCB-trained nurses will excel from day one. Currently, I am actively engaged in teaching NURS B105 Concepts, Communications, and Calculations, NURS B312 Health Assessment and NURS B320 Clinical Pharmacology, nurturing the future generation of exceptional healthcare professionals.
