High School Student Mentored by Dr. Kim Ritchie Earns Full College Scholarship

Kim Ritchie, Ph.D., associate professor of Genetics and Prokaryotic Cell Biology, reports that high school junior Lucas Tomita competed successfully in the Intel International Science Fair last year and won a full college scholarship. Now a high school senior, Tomita is continuing his work on bacteria in Dr. Ritchie’s Marine Microbiology Lab. His research involves bacteria associated with sharks. Tomita is preparing a peer-reviewed article on his work.
