USCB Students Help Visitors Learn About the Life of a Shrimper
Student News, Faculty News
The Tammy Jane operated by Vagabond Cruise is a 40-foot stern-drag shrimp trawler that plies the waters of Calibogue Sound along a sandbar off the coast of Dafuskie Island. From late May through February, the Tammy Jane offers shrimping excursions to visitors from Hilton Head Island, introducing them to a way of life that’s slowly declining. In the summer months, USCB’s Coastal Ecology students, led by Stephen A. Borgianini, Ph.D., serve as narrators aboard ship. Dr. Borgianini, an associate professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, is Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences.
