J. Brent Morris, Ph.D., associate professor of history and chair of the Humanities
department, was one of 40 internationally renowned scholars invited to speak at the
largest international symposium ever conducted by the Clemson University History department.
The conference, “Lincoln’s Unfinished Work,” took place from November 28 to December 1 at Clemson. Lincoln likely considered the
Civil War to be the most immediate “unfinished work.” The conference focused on many
of the dimensions of Lincoln’s “unfinished work” as a springboard to explore the task
of political and social reconstruction in the United States from 1865 to the present
day.
