Organized by Associate Professor of Literacy Renarta Tomkins, Ph.D., Read Across America
Day drew more than 200 young people to the Beaufort Campus for a three-hour celebration
of the joys of reading. The event, for those from pre-kindergarten through the third
grade, took place on the lawn in front of the USCB Center for the Arts on Carteret
Street. Local authors joined Rena Lewis-Kratky, M.Ed, instructor of Spanish at USCB,
in reading to the children in languages besides English. She was assisted by students
from the USCB Gamma Beta Phi and Foreign Language honors societies.
