USCB Nursing Alumna, Kristen McDonald, on COVID-19 Frontlines
Student News
USCB is proud of our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) alumni who are currently serving on the healthcare frontlines during the COVID-19 crisis. An example of such service is Class of 2019 alumna, Kristen McDonald, who is working overtime as a Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) nurse at Virginia Commonwealth University's medical center. Kristen has been on call 24/7, providing the utmost care and support to the most critical COVID-19 patients and others in need of life-sustaining measures.
Kristen credits USCB's BSN Program in preparing her to persevere during these unprecedented times. "My professors didn't sugarcoat how nursing would be. It's raw, it's emotional, but you know you have to stay strong for the patient and their family." She believes her clinical professors, Drs. Lynn Hutchison and Kimberly Dudas, equipped her to handle tough situations right off the bat. "I definitely didn't know my first year as a nurse would be baptism by fire during a pandemic, but the resiliency and hard work that I developed in USCB's BSN Program is what's keeping me afloat."
Kristin is in awe of the gratitude that surrounds her as a healthcare professional during this crisis. "The amount of altruism and sense of community, the people coming together to help healthcare workers, the amount of support - all of it has been amazing and I am thankful for every bit."
