USCB Sweeps Carolina Trustee Awards

USCB is punching above its weight. The youngest four-year institution in the University of South Carolina System has won the lion's share of a top award: the Carolina Trustees Professorship.

The award is presented annualy to tenured professors who are committed to teaching excellence. Two awards are presented to USC Columbia professors and one to a professor at a USC System institution. 

Ten  USCB professors have earned this distinction, including five in a row since 2020. They are: Cindy Lahar (2024-Psychology); Ellen Malphrus (2023-English); Manuel Bud Sanders (2022-Mathematics); Bruce Marlowe (2021-Education); Timothy Mac James (2020-History); Yiming Ji (2018-Computer Science); Babet Villena-Alvarez (2012-English); Carl Eby (2009-English); Lynn Mulkey (2004-Sociology); and Ronald Harshbarger (2001-Mathematics).  

Six of the awardees recently gathered with Chancellor Al M. Panu to recognize this accomplisment.

"One of the strengths of USCB is its excellent faculty," he said. "We boast some of the most outstanding and dedicated colleagues any comprehensive university can hope to have in its ranks. Their commitment to engaging with students to effect deep learning is clearly demonstrated by the number of Carolina Trustee Professorship awards they have received over the years."   

USCB Provost Dr. Skipper concured.

"USCB is blessed with high-caliber faculty," he said. "The consistency with which our faculty have won the Carolina Trustee Professorship award speaks to their ingenuity, creativity, and above all their ability to inspire students."
