Paul Comitz, PhD
Assistant Professor of Computational Science
I am Dr. Paul Comitz, an assistant professor of Computational Science at the University of South Carolina in Beaufort. I have taught Computer Science and Information Systems at multiple colleges and universities for many years. Most recently I was an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland.
I have also been a working engineer in the aviation industry for many years. I've worked for companies such as Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, MITRE, and Lockheed Martin on a wide range of engineering projects. As a working engineer I've been an assembly language programmer, a Systems Engineer, an Engineering Group leader, a Chief Engineer, and a Program Manager.
My interests are distributed systems, distributed communications, analytics and data analysis, Machine Learning, mobile applications, and software defined radio. It has been my privilege to write papers and present papers at technical conferences on these topics throughout the US and Europe. I am currently working on a university course in software defined radio. I am also developing courses for online platforms.
I am an amateur musician. I play bass, guitar, mandolin, and I sing a little. I've been playing in bands for my whole life starting with a garage band in high school. I'm currently playing bass at my church. I also play acoustic music both online and in person as often as I can. In the fall of 2023, I attended the Old Fiddlers Convention (which is for more than just fiddlers) in Galax, Virginia to play and jam all night!
