Robert Kilgore, PhD

Hi. I'm Rob Kilgore, and I'm an associate professor of English at USCB. 

My current work (teaching, research, service) engages the intersections among premodern literary texts, poetry, critical race theory, literacy and pedagogy, educational institutions, critical university studies, and the English profession -- which is a fancy way of saying I care deeply about poetry, and I care deeply about work, and I care deeply about how poetry and work have happened and do happen – for students and for teachers. 

My background helps explain: I have a BA in English and an MBA in Human Resources Management from Virginia Tech, and an MA and PhD from USC Columbia in English (major: Renaissance lit; minor: critical theory). I have work experience in health care administration, was a department chair and dean here at USCB, and currently serve as the president of USCB’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors. I’ve taught college courses for over 20 years now (and since 2007 at USCB). 

Each semester I teach students in Composition and Rhetoric courses and in various rotating courses: British literatures to the 18th Century, Workplace Writing, Shakespeare, Tudor Literature, 17th-Century Literature, Chaucer, and Literary Theory.
