Student Teaching in English
These student teaching requirements are monitored by the program coordinator Dr. Sam Morris, who advises and mentors English Secondary ELA Licensure students throughout their degree path.
Prior to entry into the Secondary ELA Professional program, all English Secondary ELA Licensure students must compete several requirements, including the following:
- pass the Praxis Core exams in reading, writing and mathematics
- complete 25 hours of working with children or adolescents
- complete additional training modules
- complete the fingerprinting process and criminal records review
Prior to the student's internship experience, all English Secondary ELA Licensure students must also complete the following requirements:
- pass the Praxis Core exams in English content knowledge
- create a user account in the Educator Portal with ed.sc.gov
- complete the student teaching application with the state of South Carolina
- complete the fingerprinting process and criminal records review
Application procedures for student teaching internship must be completed no later than:
- February 15 for student teaching internships beginning in the fall semester of that calendar year, or
- June 15 for student teaching internships beginning in the spring semester of the next calendar year.
