Joanna Angell, MFA
Studio Art Program Coordinator
Assistant Professor of Studio Art
My name is Joanna Angell and I am a fourth-generation multidisciplinary artist and am currently an Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Studio Art at the University of South Carolina Beaufort where I teach Ceramics, Printmaking, Drawing and Design.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Drew University in Madison, NJ. I earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA where I studied with Tamarind printmaker Charles Morgan and ceramicist Ron Meyers. I continued my graduate work in Ceramics with Virginia Scotchie at the University of South Carolina, Columbia SC and have been awarded numerous scholarships to advance my research at the internationally recognized Penland School of Craft in North Carolina.
Prior to joining the faculty at USCB in 2011, I was an independent studio artist and gallerist in Walterboro SC, exhibiting, marketing and selling my work and selected works of other artists. Accepted to the “Approved Artists Roster” of the South Carolina Arts Commission, I served as a teaching Resident Artist in South Carolina schools and I continue to teach workshops to adults and children.
My work is exhibited nationally in solo and juried group exhibitions and belongs to collections that include The President’s Collection of the University of Georgia and the South Carolina Palmetto Hands Collection. My ceramics, paintings and prints are in numerous private collections in the United States and abroad, and my work is represented in the Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center store.
