Major in Hospitality Management at USCB
The Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management department provides dynamic instruction leading to a B.S. in Hospitality Management in sync with the regional hospitality industry in the South Carolina Lowcountry and Hilton Head Island. This is achieved through teaching imbued with best practices in education, applied research and service. The department offers its students:
- a high quality educational experience through excellence in teaching by faculty with real-world experience in the hospitality industry
- opportunities to conduct applied research in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industries
- work experience in world-class resorts in state and local hospitality and tourism industries.
Graduates will be prepared to serve in leadership and management positions in a wide range of capacities including settings in lodging, food service, time-share operations, golf courses, resort operations, retail conference and convention arenas, private clubs and continuing care/retirement facilities, among others. Tourism Research, Event Management, Food Sanitation, Management Strategies, Workforce Training, Spa and Fitness Center Management, and Luxury Travel are some of the topics USCB Hospitality students delve into.
Hospitality Management Degree Program
Students majoring in Hospitality Management spend their first and second academic years taking courses on USCB's main campus in Bluffton and/or the historic campus in Beaufort. Hospitality students spend their third and fourth academic years taking courses on the university's Hilton Head Island campus, including completing both a practicum and internship.
Minor in Hospitality Management
Students who are majoring in other disciplines may choose to minor in Hospitality Management. The required courses to complete a minor in Hospitality Management are:
HRTM B110, B260 and B280, and three additional courses, at least two of which must be at the 300+ level.
Students are strongly encouraged to consult their advisor before declaring a minor.
Minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurial Studies
Students who are majoring in other disciplines may choose to minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurial Studies. The required courses to complete a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurial Studies are:
ENTR B300, ENTR/HRTM B330, BADM B380 or ENTR B450, and 9 credit hours from the following: ENTR B400, ACCT B225 or HRTM B221, BADM B210, BADM B345, MKTG B350, COMM B328, ENGL B460, other 300- or 400-level Business Administration or Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management courses, or other 300- and 400-level courses (with approval).

Minor in Sport Management
Students who are majoring in other disciplines may choose to minor in Sport Management. This minor can be completed 100 percent online. The required courses to complete a minor in Sport Management are:
- SPRT B201 (3 credits)
- 3 courses from the following: SPRT B310, SPRT B320, SPRT B340, SPRT B385, SOCY B370, and HRTM B330 (9 credits)
- 2 courses from the following: SPRT B440, SPRT B450, COMM B342, COMM B402, HRTM B320, and PSYC B229 (6 credits)
