Richard Osbaldiston, PhD

My name is Richard Osbaldiston and I am a professor of psychology here at USCB. I began working at USCB in 2022, after being a professor of psychology at Eastern Kentucky University for 15 years. I was the department chair of psychology during my last 4 years there.  

I received my Bachelor of Chemical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in 1988. I then went on to receive my Master of Science in chemical engineering at the University of South Carolina in 1993. From there, I went on to study at Yale University to earn a Master of Environmental Studies in 1996. I then earned a Master of Arts in social psychology at the University of Missouri in 2000. I completed my education by earning my Doctor of Philosophy in Social/Personal Psychology with a minor in Statistics and Quantitative Methods at the University of Missouri in 2004.  

My teaching at USCB focuses mainly on introductory psychology courses and specific courses that relate to my degree fields such as Psychological Statistics and Personality Theory. I also enjoy participating as a reviewer for the Southeastern Psychological Association Annual Conference. I have been active in this role since 2008 and continue to have the pleasure of reviewing scholarly work for this organization. SEPA is affiliated with the American Psychological Association (APA).  

My current research interests are in helping students gain research experience. As such, I work closely with a large number of students to help them complete projects on topics of their choice, and I strongly encourage them to present their research at state and regional conferences.
