They learn to make a service plan, become skilled in crisis intervention and gain experience facilitating educational and prevention self-help and support groups. The BS in Human Services includes 3 internship courses where students apply theoretical foundations and human service principles in supervised human service settings. Students learn research methods for determining the effectiveness of social programs/interventions (i.e., experimental, quasi-experimental and qualitative designs). “During my time at USCB, I volunteered with children through the Beaufort County Foster Parent Association and completed a total of 360 internship hours, including working with the United Way of the Lowcountry and AmeriCorps doing literacy tutoring for children from kindergarten through 3rd grade. I’ve always had a passion for helping others. I plan to pursue a career in mental health and intervention services for military personnel and their families.”
