I am a Senior Instructor, course developer and academic advisor for the Department of Public Health and Human Services. I'm also the Sports Dietitian for USCB Athletics. I was one of the leaders to develop and implement the Nutrition Minor at USCB. In addition to being a Registered and Licensed Dietitian, I hold a national certification as a diabetes care and education specialist. In 2018-19 I led the two-semester Beaufort County Food Swamps and Food Deserts Inventory QEP/Students Connected study which was funded by Together for Beaufort County.
I graduated from The Ohio State University with an MS in Human Nutrition with Dietetic Internship (1999). My BS degree is also from The Ohio State University and is in Human Ecology: Nutrition Sciences/Dietetic focus (1997). While in graduate school, I worked as a research assistant for hospital medical resident studies, food safety research assistant, and clinical nutrition teaching assistant. I am an alumnus of the Leadership Beaufort program.
Previous jobs held include NC State University Extension faculty; diabetes educator for inpatient and outpatient hospital programs; outpatient dietitian for wellness center; consulting dietitian; renal dietitian; long term care dietitian; and lead health promotion dietitian for a 6-county regional health department.
I am active in a variety of professional organizations and associations, including the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association; Beaufort Memorial Hospital Diabetes Program Advisory Board; Eat Smart Move More South Carolina; Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists; and the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior.
