USCB has several paid opportunities for outstanding students to be leaders on campus. By working as a Orientation Leader, Student Ambassador or Resident Assistant, you will gain valuable job experience, enrich your own college memories and contribute to making USCB the best that it can be.
Orientation Leader Position Description
We are seeking continuing students to serve as Orientation Leaders for New Student Orientation (Shark School) this year.
We are looking for a diverse student population to serve in these rolls. Traditional, non-traditional, commuter, residential, and transfer students are all encouraged to apply. New Student Orientation will be an inclusive experience for all new students joining the Sand Shark Community and we want our Orientation Leaders to represent all of their backgrounds and experiences.
Position Requirements
- Must be a registered student during both the spring 2024 and fall 2024 terms
- Must be in good standing with the University
- Ability to show beyond-the-classroom involvement on-campus including but not limited to: student organization membership, on-campus employment, participation in undergraduate research, attendance at campus activities, involvement in campus recreation, involvement with student athletics, and honors program participation
- Desire to mentor new students and support their transition to college
- A positive attitude
- Integrity- Orientation Leaders will be given access to confidential information and must maintain confidentiality
- Good self-management skills such as being on time, honoring commitments, and responding to email
- Recommendation of at least one faculty or staff member
- Please note that students will not be able to serve as both a resident assistant and an orientation leader at the same time
Essential Job Duties
- Attend all in-person and virtual Orientation Leader Training during the spring & summer of 2024. In-person training is currently set for May 2nd and 3rd (OL Retreat) and Monday, August 12th -Friday, August 16th, 2023. There will also be regularly scheduled training sessions throughout the spring 2024 semester. A schedule will be provided during the interview process.
- Participate in all parts of Shark School held Saturday, August 17th-Monday, August 20th, 2024
- Mentor an Orientation Group of 25-30 students throughout Shark School
- Speak in front of small groups of students about various topics
- Lead discussions with new students to help them reflect on their learning
- Support New Student Programming throughout the 2024-25 academic year
Compensation
- Orientations Leaders will be paid $10.00 an hour for all trainings, Orientation events, welcome week events, and Orientation Group interactions. Returning Orientation Leaders will be paid $11.00 an hour.
- Move-in day for Orientation Leaders who live on campus will be Sunday, August 11th They will also be able to stay in housing through the OL retreat days in May.
- Food will be provided at all orientation trainings and events when the meal plan is not active.
- Uniform shirts will be provided.

Student Ambassadors
The Office of Admissions is looking for USCB students who are interested in sharing their college experiences with prospective students and their guests! If you love the University of South Carolina Beaufort and want to help welcome visitors to campus, please apply to join our team. The Student Ambassador position is a paid position, which pays $10/hour.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a Student Ambassador for USCB and represent the USCB student body
- Guide campus tours for prospective students and their guests; and large groups
- Assist with special events hosted by the Office of Admissions
- Provide a positive visit experience for all guests
- Attend all USCB Student Ambassador meetings and trainings
- Dress appropriately while in the office and during the campus tour and events.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina Beaufort – must have completed at least one semester to apply
- Must be prepared and committed to be a Student Ambassador for admissions tours and special events
- Earned and continue to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Must be professional, responsible, hardworking, positive and outgoing
- Must have exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills
- Should have a history of student involvement in campus activities in high school and/or college
- Must have availability for some Saturday admissions tours and events (TBD)

Resident Assistants
University of South Carolina Beaufort Resident Assistant Job Description and Requirements
A Resident Assistant (RA) is a well-rounded student staff member responsible for building a positive community by organizing creative social and educational activities, fostering a safe environment and establishing 1-on-1 relationships with residents. RAs promote student development by serving as a resource for academic support, housing policies and procedures and by encouraging involvement in the diverse campus community at USCB.

Resident Assistants must be full-time USCB students for at least one semester and must have lived in the residence halls for at least one semester or have comparable community experience. Candidates must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Approved employment in addition to the RA job is limited to 15 hours on campus or 10 hours off campus. Student Advisory Council
Mission
The Student Development Advisory Council offers interested USCB students an opportunity to provide advice and feedback on a wide variety of issues impacting student life including health and wellbeing, housing, academic support, and student engagement. The council’s primary goal is to provide feedback to the Vice Chancellor for Student Development and share experiences with a wide range of student issues. The council’s recommendations influence all areas in student development and allow the Vice Chancellor to be guided by a diverse array of student perspectives.
Membership
The advisory council is comprised of a wide range of USCB students, both full- and part-time, commuter, and residential. Students who are passionate about the quality of student life and the student experience at USCB, engaged in the campus community, and interested in student services and development outside of the classroom setting are encouraged to apply. We are seeking a broad representation of students.
Advisory Council members are selected through an application and interview process which begins in March of the spring semester and October of the fall semester.

Meetings are once monthly on a Thursday night from 6:00pm – 7:30pm through the fall and spring semesters.
