About the AHE

In collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Education, the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Center for Lowcountry Hospitality Education is proud to announce this year’s Hospitality Experience. The Experience will take place from Sunday, January 26, until Tuesday, January 28. This experience is for both high school and college hospitality educators to experience new and exciting changes to the hospitality field. All aspects of the hospitality industry will be covered; from Event Management and Travel to Lodging, Certifications, and even Technology innovation in the Industry. CEUs will be rewarded by the SCDE during this event. The experience will include guest speakers, hands-on experiential learning opportunities, and panel discussions; in addition, heavy appetizers will be provided on Sunday night, with working breakfasts and lunches also being provided on Monday and Tuesday.

4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Check in for the Beach House
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. – The Ocean Room – Introductions, Initial Discussions, Tour of The Beach House Resort. Heavy Appetizers Provided.

5:45 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. – The Ocean Room –Tour of The Beach House Resort, lead by General Manger Jay Wiendl and Sales Manager Renee Laurie.

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. – Independent Business Owner Discussion with Sweet Al’s Bakery. Breakfast provided by Sweet Al’s Bakery.
9:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Department of Education Discussion, lead by Dr. Eleanor R. Glover Gladney.
10:10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – Vendor Highlight and Discussion, lead by Guest Speaker Chef Lisa Buzzelli, Culinary Institute of Charleston.
10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Technology Innovations in the Hospitality Industry, lead by Trey Ramsey, Assistant Director of the Center for Lowcountry Hospitality Education.
11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Sea Pines Development: Innovation and Renovation, lead by Cliff McMackin, Director of Resort Development, Sea Pines.
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Working Lunch and Discussions of the Food and Beverage Industry with Guest Speaker University of South Carolina Alum Dayton Loper, Manager of One Hot Mama’s.
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Tourism and Experiential Learning with Sea Pines Resort. Trolly to pick up and drop off at USCB campus.
3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Return to USCB, Closing Remarks, and Review of Tuesday’s Schedule.

9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. – Certification in the Hospitality Industry, lead by Dr. Eleanor R. Glover Gladney.
9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Break, Tour of USCB Hilton Head Island Campus
10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. – Demo of The Event U, lead by Guest Speaker Doral Anderson
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – General Discussion, and Closing Remarks, lead by Dr. Eleanor R. Glover Gladney and Sarah Beachkofsky, Executive Director of the Center for Lowcountry Hospitality Education. Lunch to be served at around 11:30.
